Pediatric Dentistry in Hampton Roads

Children have specific dental needs (emotionally and physically), and the professionals at Advanced Sedation Dentistry have the advanced training to treat kids at both of our dental practices in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, VA. Whether its a general dental cleaning, fluoride treatment, fillings or other procedures, we are always providing dental education and encouraging good oral hygiene that includes developing proper brushing habits.

Should kids go to dentists?

Yes, and it may be earlier than you think! The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that a child should go to the dentist by age one, or within six months after the first tooth erupts. Primary (or “baby”) teeth typically begin growing in when a child is about six months old.

How to prepare your child for their first visit to the dentist?

There are lots of ideas, but the overall goal is to overcome any anxiety your child may have. First, don’t transmit any fear you may have yourself. You might want to read books together about oral health and visiting the dentist, and play “dentist” with stuffed animals. Use positive, encouraging words about having strong, healthy teeth. Bring toys or other distractions to the appointment, and plan a treat (a trip to the playground?) to help your kiddo stay focused.

How to help my child stop being terrified of the dentist?

Stay positive! Answer any general dentistry questions they may have calmly, and without too much detail. Be sure to find a child-friendly dental office such as Advanced Sedation Dentistry. Explain how the dentist helps take care of their mouth, keeping them safe and healthy. If nothing seems to help your child, a safe and effective sedative may be an option, allowing them to stay relaxed.

What are the benefits of family dentistry?

Family dentistry is designed to treat everyone in your household. You can keep it simple and schedule routine cleanings together, and children can enjoy the continuity of having the same dentist care for them as they grow up; a trusting relationship can develop. It’s also easier to track each family member’s dental history and treatments can be more easily addressed.

I had a good experience at Advanced Sedation Dentistry after moving here from Ohio and not seeing a dentist for over a year. My dental insurance company recommended them. I feel very comfortable there and well cared for. I am so happy I found Advanced Sedation Dentistry.

Had an absolutely amazing experience with Advanced Sedation Dentistry! I mean when your oldest child comes out after getting teeth cleaned and says “I love coming to the dentist,” those words tell you right there.
